Alexander Zverev vs Andrey Rublev: Preview

On Friday, in a highly anticipated semifinal in Dubai, Andrey Rublev, the defending champion, will face off against Alexander Zverev, the reigning Olympic champion. Despite winning four titles in 2022, Rublev’s start to the 2023 season has been lackluster thus far. The Russian player, currently ranked World No. 6, suffered two losses in the two Adelaide International tournaments leading up to the Australian Open.

However, he redeemed himself with a brilliant run to the quarterfinals of the first Major of the year, matching his best result at Melbourne Park. Unfortunately, Rublev’s performance declined afterward, as he lost in the first round at Rotterdam. He managed to make it to the quarterfinals in Doha last week, and he has improved on that result by reaching the semifinals in Dubai this week.

This will be Zverev’s first semifinal this year and he will be looking to make it big. He hasn’t been in good touch ever since his return from the injury. However, it will be a very hard task for him as Rublev is in fine touch unlike him. The second seed will do his best to defend his title here in ATP Dubai Tennis Championship.

Alexander Zverev vs Andrey Rublev: Predictions

This week, Zverev has displayed many promising signs, which he will likely seek to build upon. He demonstrated an impressive performance against Sonego, successfully saving all six break points against him. This achievement should enhance his confidence as he enters the highly anticipated semifinal against Rublev, who has emerged as one of the top players in recent months.

Despite Rublev’s somewhat lackluster performance this week, it is worth noting that Zverev has completely dominated their rivalry, having won all five of their previous matches without dropping a set. Their most recent encounter occurred in the 2021 Cincinnati final, where Zverev handily defeated Rublev 6-2, 6-3. His previous record over Rublev will help Zverev mentally coming into the match.

Prediction: Alexander Zverev will win in three sets.
