The 26-year-old began by defeating Radu Albot in three sets to get to the quarterfinals, where he defeated compatriot Lorenzo Sonego after coming back from a set down. After that, he defeated Oscar Otte in straight sets in the semifinals, 7-6(9-7), 7-6(7-5) to earn a spot in the final.
