Matteo Berrettini, the 2021 Wimbledon finalist is in full flow on grass. He has made a stunning recovery from the injury, reaching the final in his first grass-court event. Berrettini is a force to reckon with, but when in great form he is almost unbeatable. Though he had to undergo several tough matches at ATP Stuttgart Open 2022, including the one against his friend and compatriot Lorenzo Sonego, he has pulled through very well. Berrettini will face a very stiff challenge from Andy Murray for the title.

Andy Murray, the two-time Wimbledon champion is on a comeback journey of his own. After the hip surgeries, this is the first year he has made it into two ATP finals since 2019, and will be looking for his first title in 3 years. Murray has turned back the clocks with his impressive play in Stuttgart. He demolished the top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas with ease, marking his first win over an ATP top 5 since 2016. Murray has also finished all of his matches in straight sets in this tournament. He would be confident going against Berrettini.

Matteo Berrettini has defeated Andy Murray in their only meeting on the grass at the Queen’s Club in 2021, a tournament Berrettini won and then went on to the final of Wimbledon, finishing his grass-court season on a high. However, Murray had also won against Berrettini in 2019 on the hard courts of Beijing in a very close match, making it a even split on the head-to-head scoreboard.

Berrettini would like to get his services right and if he is able to do that then it’s going to be a really tough challenge for Murray to get past him. Though Berrettini is a slight favorite against Murray, he would still have to be really solid otherwise for a grass-court specialist like Murray would not be difficult to demolish Matteo. Both the players have made great comeback performances, but only one of them will be able to give their tournament a perfect finish in Stuttgart.
