Both of them have not faced any very big names in the tournament yet and this quarterfinals match will be the first big match for both of them in the Grand Slam this year. Qinwen Zheng defeated Ashlyn Krueger, Katie Boulter, Wang Yafan and Oceane Dodin in her campaign so far. 

Anna Kalinskaya, on the other hand, has faced Katie Volynets, Arantxa Rus, Sloane Stephens, and Jasmine Paolini in the tournament so far. Comparatively, though, Zheng has had tougher matches than the Russian but the Chinese international did not let the struggle be felt by her elegance in each and every match.

Anna Kalinskaya and Qinwen Zheng have met each other only once so far, i.e., back in 2022 at Guadalajara. Back then, the Russian had emerged victorious 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 in straight sets. However, their current forms suggest otherwise. Moreover, it would be unfair to judge the Chinese based on just one match. 

Zheng has made many improvements in her performance since 2022 and is a much more complete player now. She is expected to win the match against Kalinskaya to proceed to the semi-finals of the tournament. The winner of this match will face the winner of the match between Linda Noskova and Daria Yastremska in the semi-final of the 2024 Australian Open.
