Austrian former professional tennis player Barbara Schett recently talked about the spectacular rivalry between Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic ahead of the 2023 French Open. She also speculated about the chances of Carlos Alcaraz bagging the Roland-Garros trophy.

Roger Federer retired from the sport, and Rafael Nadal recently withdrew from the tournament due to his persisting injury problems. This leaves only Novak Djokovic as the only member of the renowned “Big Three” competing in the 2023 Roland Garros.

Barbara Schett believes that Carlos Alcaraz “has a long way to go”  before he is in the same league as the ‘Big Three’. Alcaraz is an amazing player with a lot of potential and he has achieved a lot at a very young age but he has a lot to do before he is considered among the greats.

He has to have a long career and be pushed by rivals too. It will be hard to see that again because they all play so differently. Federer had this elegance on the court and was practicing so hard. We could not have thought Rafa would have such a long career because of his injuries and Djokovic moves like a 20-year-old on the court and has no weaknesses, really. I hope someone will follow in their footsteps.”, said Schett.

Everyone has to make their own history, and what we’ve witnessed the last 15 years with Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic is incredible. I don’t think we’ll ever have a rivalry like that again.”, said Barbara Schett. She also said that although Alcaraz is in great form and physical shape, a player like Novak Djokovic should never be counted out.

Barbara Schett talked about Rafael Nadal’s withdrawal from the 2023 French Open. Schett spoke about the dominance of Rafael Nadal in the Roland Garros over the years.“We all know how much he loves Roland Garros. You have to use the name Rafa Nadal in one sentence with Roland Garros. He has won it 14 times. He is the King of Clay,”, said Schett.

Barbara Schett also expressed how she hopes to see Nadal in the Roland Garros next year. Nadal is the most dominant player ever in the French Open and has won it a staggering 14 times. His withdrawal came as a shocking revelation for the fans who are anticipating his comeback.
