“Be a man and take the responsibility” Tennis Twitter holds Patrick Mouratoglou guilty for Simona Halep’s doping offence based on closeness to former World No.1
Patrick Mouratoglou and Simona Halep
After former World No.1 Simona Halep was provisionally suspended for a second-confirmed positive doping test, his coach Patrick Mouratoglou has come under fire on social media, first considering the timeline of his jump to upcoming Danish player Holger Rune’s camp was coinciding suspiciously with Halep being informed of her first positive test.
It seems that now tennis fans on Twitter are also targeting Mouratoglou by assuming that he must have had some sort of involvement in Halep’s doping offence considering how far he was involved with Halep’s day-to-day activities and plans. The Frenchman, who has previously coached Serena Williams, is known to have a 360-degree impact on players and in recent times, Rune’s maiden title win at Stockholm against a player of the caliber of Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final has proved just that.
Here’s a look at some of the charges being levelled against Mouratoglou on Twitter.
Simona Halep’s father vouches daughter wouldn’t even drink water from bottle unless she opened it herself
Halep now faces a possible expulsion for 4 years from the sport following a detailed investigation. While the 2-time major winner has pleaded innocence in the case, the official verdict will determine the Romanian’s fate.
Speaking about the entire case, Simona’s father Stere Halep came out to show support for his daughter. Speaking with Romanian site Observatornews, Halep Sr. also said his daughter been found guilty of doping is shocking and he believes she will be cleared of the charges soon.
“It’s not an easy situation to go through! But with faith and God’s help, everything will be resolved. And I hope that the competent bodies will do justice. Simona is therefore guilty of nothing at all. She took something for her glands, but we don’t know anything,” said Halep’s father.
With various fan theories being floating on who could possibly give the drug to the 2-time major winner, her father has distanced himself from it. Stere Halep has taken the high road and refused to call out anyone, atleast in the public, until he has a clear evidence to back his claim.
“Who would prescribe such a thing? Simona doesn’t even have a personal doctor, never had one. She would never drink water from a bottle unless she opened it herself. We suspect absolutely no one because suspicion is the greatest of sins. Treason? I do not know who it is.
“She feels betrayed by what’s going on, not necessarily by anyone. We are a family that does not suspect anyone until the plain truth is known,” added Halep‘s father as the family now prepares for a big battle to prove the tennis star’s innocence in the case.
