James Melville and Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic, the former World Number 1, clinched his 7th Wimbledon title his fourth in a row at the All England Club defeating Nick Kyrgios in a dramatic final at the Centre Court. He has proved his dominance over the years and his matching winning streak at the SW19 still continues as he remains unbeaten after his final win. But after his win, he is still unsure if he will be able to play at the next Grand Slam event, which is the US Open 2022 starting on 29th August.

Djokovic has been brave enough to tackle the tough and strict situations he faced at the Australian Open owing to his vaccination status. He was ‘unvaccinated’ at that time and was deported from the country and also received a three-year ban from participating in the championship. He also could perform well at the Roland Garros. He has been keeping a firm stance on his vaccination status stance due to any sort of pressure even though it might cost him missing out on major tournaments. He has been criticized for his behavior with some calling it a ‘selfish attitude’ or ‘irresponsible behavior’.

Novak Djokovic is hopeful of his participation at the US Open

Novak Djokovic‘s vaccination status still remains ‘unvaccinated’ and he has no intention of taking the vaccination anytime soon. This has landed him into another big trouble as now his chances of playing at the US Open 2022 are absolutely minimal owing to the strict immigration rules by the US Government. This has not gone down well with his fans and well-wishers as they want to see the champion back on the hard-court turf.

As things are as of now, there are very few chances of Djokovic playing the tournament until and unless the US Government makes an exception as the organizers made it clear that they will be respecting the US government’s immigration rules and any unvaccinated foreigner will not be allowed to enter the country

Social commentator, freelance writer, and political pundit James Melville is the recent person to slam the authorities for their impractical decision to keep the champion away from playing. His post on Twitter pointed out at the irony that despite being called the ‘US Open’, the doors are closed for the 21-time champion based on his vaccination status. He said “The irony of a tennis tournament being called The US Open but closing off the participation of a player because of his own medical choice.

If he is not allowed by any chance, then he will play next at the Laver Cup in Team Europe with a star-studded lineup with his arch-rivals as teammates under the leadership of Bjorn Borg.
