American tennis player Ben Shelton had a great 2023 season as the 21-year-old made it to his maiden Grand Slam semifinal, at the 2023 US Open. Although he lost to Novak Djokovic, the American made a lot of noise with his on-field antics. Nonetheless, Shelton impressed many with his aggressive gameplay. While he claims to have gotten the inspiration for it from Rafael Nadal, Shelton has revealed Roger Federer as his style inspiration.

Shelton who is sponsored by the Roger Federer-backed Swiss apparel company ON, wants to slay it like the Swiss maestro. The American seems to be in awe of how Federer carried himself on and off the court and he wants to replicate the same.

I get style inspiration from different people, other athletes, and Instagram. Roger is one of those guys who can do it all. He can do it on the court, he can do it off the court, he can do it at the Met Gala, he can do it at Wimbledon.

The 21-year-old American further talked about his future aspirations. Shelton admitted that he needs to work on a lot of things to reach the level he aspires to be at. The US Open semifinals then talked about his pre-match routine and things he does before a match to get him pumped up.

The American revealed that he has no superstitions as such and is focused on eating a variety of things. Shelton then talked about the role of hip-hop music to get him fired up before he walks onto the court. The 21-year-old also agreed that there is no substitute for hard work.

I’m not a superstitious ritual guy. My warm-ups vary. I eat different things. I do like to listen to aggressive hip-hop to hype myself up before I go on the court, but it just comes down to hard work. Hard work is not something that I’m just ‘whatever’ about. When it’s time for me to really put in work, I’m fine being the first guy to show up to the facility or the last guy to leave.
Ben Shelton further stated.

Notably, Ben Shelton will open his 2024 campaign with Brisbane International, his first-ever showing at the tournament. The American will then take part in the 2024 Australian Open and will be hoping for an even better outing than last time when he made it to the quarterfinals.
