American teen tennis sensation Ben Shelton has got a new fan in Greg Rusedski who is impressed by the old-school power the 20-year-old possesses. Rusedski, who himself was a leftie, said that he loves Shelton’s attacking gameplay.
It is worth mentioning that Ben Shelton is known for his bullet serves and his strong forehand shots. Rusedski looks impressed with the young American who is making a name for himself on the tour. The Canadian confessed that he loves watching Shelton and claimed that old-school power tennis is still worth it.
“Anyone else love watching @BenShelton? I always love watching an attacking leftie! Old school power tennis can still work,” wrote Rusedski on X (formerly Twitter).
Ben Shelton eyes to further impress Greg Rusedski with first ATP 1000 title in Shanghai
Although Greg Rusedski and many others are already impressed with Ben Shelton’s attacking gameplay, the American will hope to get more people in his fan club by winning his first ATP 1000 title, or the first singles title on the tour for that matter. The 20-year-old has already reached the quarterfinals at the Rolex Shanghai Masters and will face Sebastian Korda there.
Shelton beat Jannik Sinner in the fourth round to stun everyone. The American now has to hold his nerves in a couple of more matches if he is hoping to lay hands on that elusive trophy. The American has said that he is “addicted” to play on the big stage and thus will be aiming for no less than a title. “I am addicted to playing on the big stages. I have not had a normal upbringing or usual first year on Tour. It has been a little bit backwards but I am just trying to keep going and improving each week,” said Shelton after the win over Sinner.
The American can potentially meet Hubert Hurkacz in the semifinal and then Andrey Rublev in the summit clash if all goes well for him as well as the two other players. In all three matches, Shelton will have a first-ever meeting with his opponents and thus it would make an interesting game.
