Young American talent Ben Shelton recently achieved his dream of reaching his first ATP tour finals in Japan. The 20-year-old has recently created a buzz in the tennis community due to his on-court presence. 2023 has been a wonderful year for the youngster as he did well in the US Open and followed it with a win in the Laver’s Cup.

Now the youngster made it to his maiden ATP tour finals in Japan. Ben Shelton went through the likes of Taro Daniel, Jordan, Tommy Paul, and Marcos Giron to book a date with the Russian.

Following his win over Giron, Shelton stated:

It’s a huge achievement for me and my team, especially the way the match panned out today. Definitely one of the toughest matches I’ve played in my life. Marcos was waxing me from the baseline in almost every rally and I had to completely change my game to even have a chance against him.

In his match against Giron, fans were left awestruck as both the players went back and forth with the rallies where the American eventually won the game.

The final score was 6(2)-7, 7-6(5),6-4 with both players giving it their all to earn a huge round of applause after the match. The intense match showed the capabilities of Shelton in tournaments and made him one of the promising youngsters in the future.

Ben Shelton faces the struggles of a tiresome match

Following an exhausting semi-final match in the 2023 Japan Open, Ben Shelton shared some of the side effects he experienced from the game.

To be able to get through that match, to not only figure some things out but get a win and be going into my first ATP final, the win couldn’t be sweeter. The legs are a little heavy today, but they’ll definitely be recovered by tomorrow, I’ll be ready to go. I think if nothing else, adrenaline will get me through the match.
said Ben in the post-match interview.

He will now lock horns with Russian Aslan Karatsev who has also played remarkably well throughout the tournament. Fans are awaiting this nail-biter of a match that will steal the spotlights in Japan. As the highly anticipated finals approaches, fans eagerly await the outcome and the possible crowing of a new champ.
