In the world of tennis, the players are driven to work day in and day out towards their goal. With no stopping to this daily routine, they have to fully commit to the sport to see consistent results. Ben Shelton marvels at these players, who return every year doing the same thing again and again.
In a recent interview with the Indian Wells Press, the American was asked if he marvels Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal for being consistent almost every week they play.
As a youngster himself, Shelton saw a high at the US Open and subsequently saw a comparative drop in the next Grand Slam.
He found it crazy that the greats of the sport are working hard without losing motivation. Naming some of the biggest icons in the sporting world, the Americans find it “mental” that they can work tirelessly, irrespective of their previous achievements.
Obviously the greats are able to come back the next year and do it again, the Novaks and the Rafas, the Rogers, the Kobe Bryants, the Michael Jordans, like each year, it almost seems like they're getting better and continuing to improve. I think it's really mental,Said Ben Shelton via Indian Wells Press.
While Nadal is currently dealing with his injury problems, Djokovic continues to work tirelessly, maintaining his spot as the World No.1. As Sheldon lucidly stated, Djokovic has everything needed, and still has a stable mindset to keep working hard and winning.
Ben Shelton hails the GOATs as he discusses the difficulties of maintaining consistency
Young talent Ben Shelton continues his rise in the tennis world, as he wins his first match at Indian Wells and gears up for another. Trying to maintain that consistency, the American discussed a few difficulties that come with maintaining consistency.
He stated that the physical part is very important, as the athlete must be in the best shape, week after week, despite the heavy scheduling of many country shifts. Furthermore, he also discussed the mental difficulties, which are mainly about trying to keep a good mindset throughout the career, irrespective of your previous achievements.
Then also mentally, it's, like, how motivated are you? What really drives you to go out there and play each week? Because I think it's easy to lose motivation when you've won so much or you're financially stable or you've accomplished some things that you want to accomplish, ticked off some goals,Said Ben Shelton via the Indian Wells Press.
Shelton himself is trying to get to the consistent stage. After a few decent performances in the tournaments after the Australian Open, he looks to replicate the same at the Indian Wells.
