American tennis sensation Ben Shelton, who is currently in Dallas for the ATP 250 tournament, paid a visit to the Dallas Mavericks Arena and tried his hands on basketball. While fans have already seen Shelton’s skills with a tennis racket in hand, the youngster is impressed with his basketball skills as well.

Shelton and Tommy Paul enjoyed each other’s company at the Mavericks Arena as they played tennis as well as basketball. While Paul seemed to play like a newbie, Ben Shelton was bang-on with his dribbling and jumps. The 21-year-old took a big lead to put the ball in the basket.

This means there are expectations. His coach claims that Shelton will be the first American to win a Grand Slam title after Andy Roddick.

The player himself has huge expectations of himself but Shelton does not want to put a ceiling on his goals. He says that he will focus on one thing at a time now and then will evaluate his performance at the end of the season.

I feel like no matter what you say in the press, someone’s going say: ‘Oh, you shot too high or you shot too low’. So I’m going to keep my result-based goals between me and my team.

Notably, Ben Shelton has not had a great start to the 2024 season. The American was defeated in the first round at the Brisbane International. Shelton then played at the ASB Classics and seemed to be going strong before he met Taro Daniel in the semifinals. The American lost to his Japanese counterpart in straight sets.

I don’t have anything in my mind that I’m really setting out for yet. I feel like I don’t want to put a ceiling on myself and what I can achieve. I just want to take things one step at a time and see where I am at the end of this year.
The American youngster further states.

At the 2024 Australian Open, Ben Shelton was expected to do well considering his record on hardcourts and also his previous outing at the year’s first Grand Slam, where he reached the quarterfinals. However, the American could only survive until the third round, as Frenchman Adrian Mannarino took him down.

Now, the 21-year-old has a chance to bag his first title of the season in Dallas. Shelton, being the third seed, has been given a bye at the ATP 250 tournament. It is to be seen how he grabs the opportunity.
