21-time grand slam champion Novak Djokovic missed the 2022 US Open due to his vaccination status. He has had his share of bad luck throughout the year starting with the Australian Open where he was detained due to his vaccination status and hence was not allowed to defend his Australian Open title. Such was the scenario at the Golden Swing as a result of which his season star was hampered.

After a slow start, he had a decent clay swing where he won the Rome Masters but couldn’t defend his French Open title as he lost to arch-rival Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinal. But he bounced back well to win his 7th Wimbledon title which was also his 21st major title. But his vaccination status once again haunted him for the North-American hard court swing.

There was a lot of backlash ahead of the US Open when Djokovic wasn’t allowed to compete from both fans and fellow sports persons. Speaking on Bill Maher’s ‘Club Random’ podcast, NFL star Aaron Rodgers spoke about how Djokovic was wronged for not being allowed to compete at the US Open. He argued that the best player on the tour, who is the fittest didn’t come to New York because of some dumb rule.

“The best f***ing player on the men’s side can’t play,” Rodgers said about Djokovic. “One of the fittest guys in the f***ing world whose had covid at least once, if not twice, can’t f***ing come to New York?”

Rodgers further cited an example of NBA star Kyrie Irving and said that despite not being vaccinated, he was allowed to watch a NBA game but stupidly wasn’t allowed to play in the same match.

“Kyrie Irving attended a basketball game courtside but couldn’t play for his team. How is that f***ing possible?” Rodgers asked. “He attended a basketball game and got to watch it in the stands but couldn’t play f***ing play on his team because he wasn’t vaxxed.”
