Canadian tennis player Bianca Andreescu has shared her highlights of 2023 on a thread (series of connected tweets) on X. There, she talked about the highs and lows that she faced this year and said that 2023 was an amalgamation of emotions. The 23-year-old missed almost the entirety of the second half of the 2023 tour owing to an injury.

Andreescu suffered a stress fracture in her back during her match against Camila Corgi at the 2023 Canadian Open. She was clearly in distress during the match and ended up losing it. Due to her injury, she had to withdraw from the Cincinnati Masters and then from the US Open. She has not yet fully recovered and thus had to skip the 2024 Australian Open as well.

Talking about 2023, Bianca Andreescu said that she could have never imagined that the year would go down this way.

I never thought I’d be where I am today at the beginning of the year. I had goals for my career and personal life that just didn’t go the way I thought. It was very saddening at first - thinking I’ve failed let myself down, but like that one person once said… that’s life

She further said:

This year took so many turns. I’ve never felt so hurt. I’ve also never felt so happy. But the one thing that always keeps me going is continuously learning. So to end this year I want to share with you the moments where I’ve felt the most joy, sadness, and contentment. Enjoy :)

The Canadian then went on to share a couple of pictures that summed up her year perfectly. It included pictures of her playing various tournaments, her pet dog, her favorite cuisine, and her injury. In some pictures, she is happy, while in others, she is having a breakdown. It is really bold of her to share these personal moments with her fans.

Bianca Andreescu’s 2023 season at a glance

Andreescu’s 2023 season was filled with setbacks, but it showed the never-give-up mentality of the Canadian in the best way possible. She was off to a not-so-great start to the season after early exits from both the Adelaide 1 and Australian Open (both second-round exits). The remainder of her tour had the exact same tone, as the Canadian put up just average performances in all her tournaments and failed to particularly impress.

Her injury at the Canadian Open made things worse, as it was a massive upset and it ended her season. In fact, Andreescu is not even able to get a fresh start from the beginning of 2024 like Rafael Nadal, Naomi Osaka or Paula Badosa.

Bianca Andreescu’s fight continues, but if her X thread has made anything clear, it is that she is now mentally prepared and well-equipped for her upcoming battle.
