At just 19 years old and entering the competition as an unseeded player, Bianca Andreescu was living her dream of winning the Canadian Open, a feat that hadn’t been achieved by a Canadian since 1969. Her dream came true in 2019, when she beat one of the best women’s tennis players in the world, Serena Williams, to take home the title.

The unanswered question lingers: would Bianca Andreescu have claimed the title if Serena Williams hadn’t been sidelined by injuries during the final match? Andreescu’s remarkable journey saw her defeating formidable opponents like Eugenie Bouchard, Daria Kasatkina, KiKi Bertens, Karolina Pliskova, and Sofia Kenin en route to the final. Despite these victories, she was deemed the second favorite against Serena. During the final, Andreescu was in the lead at 3-1 in the first set when Serena was forced to withdraw due to back problems.
