“Big Wimbledon run incoming?” Twitterati hype Andy Murray up after he stunned top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas on grass at Stuttgart

3-time grand slam champion Andy Murray played some vintage grass-court tennis to stun top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarterfinal of the 2022 Boss Open at Stuttgart. He defeated Tsitsipas in straight sets 7-6(4),6-3 to register his biggest win in more than 5 years. This was his first Top 5 win since beating Novak Djokovic in the 2016 ATP Finals.

Murray was dominant right from the start on serve and gave no chance to Tsitsipas to dominate from the baseline. He matches him in groundstrokes and played some amazing winners to win the tie-breaker and eventually the first set after dropping just four points. Murray played even better tennis at the start of the second set. He carried the momentum entering the second set and was defending very well.

He played some incredible passing shots to break Tsitsipas’ serve and what followed was classic grass-court tennis where Murray was hitting the ball flat out giving no respect to Tsitsipas‘ classic top spin. He eventually won the set 6-3 to notch up his first Top 5 victory in more than 5 years.
