Billie Jean King is one of the greatest women tennis players in history. She won many titles throughout her career which include the Grand Slam titles, WTA Tour Finals, and Fed Cup. A huge inspiration to many women tennis players and an icon of women’s tennis, King is one of the most respected players.

In her long career, she has always raised a voice for equality whether it pertains to gender, race, creed, religion, or color. She also won the Battle of the Sexes tennis match against Bobby Riggs to prove that women are capable enough to take part in sports and are incredibly as good as men.

The American has always promoted equality in all spheres through her charity and her work over the years. In a similar anecdote, Billie Jean King took to social media to give a message which resonate with both gender and racial equality. She remembers Shirley Chisholm who became the first Black woman to be elected to the United States Congress.

It was 54 years ago today when Shirley Chisholm became the first Black woman elected to the United States Congress. Her historic election helped make it easier for many Black women to do the same,” her caption read.

This post is particularly special in light of midterm polls that have been called in the USA. The people of the United States of America will get a chance to choose and vote for their representatives in the United States Congress.

Like a true champion, she aced this one as well and gave a heartfelt message to every American and people around the world that they must look beyond gender, race, and color. Every individual must try to raise his or her voice for equality.

Billie Jean King won 39 Grand Slam titles- 12 singles titles, 16 doubles titles, and 11 mixed titles. She also won the Fed Cup a record 12 times for the United States of America. She won all four grand slams in her career.

She was instrumental in founding the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) a separate body for women tennis professional players. The American has also been inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame.

The 78-year-old also founded a charity organization dedicated to promoting sports amongst women and girls called the Women’s Sports Foundation (WSF). It helps to make girls’ and women’s lives better through their active involvement in sports.

Billie Jean King is still active as a sports commentator. She retired from professional tennis in 1990. She later coached Martina Navratilova and Tim Mayotte in her career.
