There is no doubt that the most popular player currently on the ATP Tour is Carlos Alcaraz. The World No. 2 is making headlines for all the good reasons from the time he stepped on to the Tour. The consistency shown in his performances has helped him not only attract the attention of his fans but all the greats of the game.

Bjorn Borg, the 11-time Grand Slam winner, is among the former players who have been impressed by the Spaniard’s performance in recent months. In an interview with Eurosport, Borg expressed his admiration for Alcaraz.

“After this week he’s going to be No. 1 in the world, and I think he’s going to be staying there for many years,” said Borg while praising the Spaniard.
“The way he plays, the way he moves, I like the whole game. No weaknesses. This was a semi-final today. I think he has a good chance to win the final. But to watch this guy play is unbelievable. I’m very impressed.”

The interview was after Alcaraz won his semi-final match against Borna Coric. He beat the Croatian 6-4 6-3 in straight sets to reach the Madrid Master’s finale. He will now face the German-pro Jan-Lennard Struff for the trophy battle. This is a great compliment for the Spaniard as Bjorn Borg, an 11-time Grand Slam winner, certainly knows that being consistent on the Tour requires a lot of effort. To have him say that Alcaraz has no weakness in his game is something the young ace won’t forget for the rest of his life.

Well, if on one side the Spanish world of tennis had their young sensation making the headlines, on the other side, their old legendary warrior has not been seen in action since January this year. The biggest breaking news is that Rafael Nadal recently pulled out of the Italian Open, a tournament that he took part in every year since he made his debut there.

Bjorn Borg also expressed his concerns and said that he hopes to see the 14-time Roland Garros winner back in action very soon. “Rafa is a good friend of mine. I know he’s struggling a little bit with his body, I’ve known that for a long time,” Borg said. “Unfortunately, he’s not going to play Rome, but we want to see him at the French Open. If he’s not going to be fit, he’s not going to play.”

When asked whether he thinks the Spaniard can make it to Paris, Borg smiled and said, “Maybe.” Like Borg, there are millions sweating over their favorite star’s fitness and would hope to see him soon as the Tour moves to Rome next week.
