Danish tennis prodigy Holger Rune continued his hunt for a title at the ongoing Basel Open as he registered a scintillating win over Argentinian tennis star Sebastian Baez in a thrilling encounter. Baez won the first set by a tiebreaker, and then in the second set, he didn’t give Baez any chances whatsoever to settle down as he went into the quarterfinals of the competition with a 7-6 (2), 6-1 win.
It was the first time since the Wimbledon Championships that Rune had managed to win back-to-back games, doing so at the Halle Saint-Jacques in Basel on Thursday evening. He was delighted with his performance, and having linked up with new coach Boris Becker, Rune will be looking to taste a title win, which he has been lacking for a long time now.
After the match, Boris Becker was seen signing autographs for several young supporters in the stadium, and Rune followed as well.
With that being said, there is no denying that even after a disastrous last couple of months, Rune is finding solace in his new coach, and he is adamant about stacking up important points ahead of the Nitto ATP Finals.
Holger Rune’s slump in form throughout the last few months of the year
Holger Rune, adjudged one of the most promising young guns in the tennis world, had not been getting the right results this year, having managed to bag just a single title. His only piece of silverware came way back in the Bavarian International competition, and apart from that, he has had a pretty dry year. He also made it to the finals of the Italia Open and the Monte-Carlos Masters but ended up on the losing side on both occasions.
His notable performances are his semi-final finishes at the Open Sud de France, the Mexican Open, and the Queen’s Club Championships. Having parted ways with his former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, he would now be adamant to expect good things from himself as he continues to learn from tennis legend Boris Becker with all his eyes next on the ATP Finals qualification.
