Alexander Zverev has had a forgettable year on the tour so far. After making his return from injury early this season, the German has failed to live up to his usual standards. The 2020 US Open runner-up’s best result came at the Qatar Open a couple of months ago, where he managed to reach the semifinals. Apart from his run in Doha, Alexander Zverev’s results have been way below par.

On the other hand, the new generation of players, including Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Holger Rune have taken over the tennis world. Former tennis player Boris Becker believes that the focus has shifted from the Big Three players, and has now moved onto these young stars.

The likes of Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic have dominated tennis for the last two decades. However, it seems that their dominance might just be nearing an end, given the recent resurgence among the younger players. Boris Becker believes that the younger generation has already surpassed Alexander Zverev, as he suggests the German to learn from his counterparts.

Boris Becker has suggested Alexander Zverev to conduct a self-assessment and encourages him to do something different. The tennis legend believes that the 26-year-old can learn a lot from the likes of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner among the new generation of players.

Carlos Alcaraz has already claimed four ATP titles this season, as the Spaniard continues his dominance on Spanish clay. Meanwhile, Jannik Sinner and Holger Rune are the other two exciting prospects on the tour at the moment. American tennis star Taylor Fritz has been one of the most consistent players on the tour this season, reaching the latter rounds of the tournaments often.

The focus is no longer on the Big 3. Sascha is being overtaken by younger players. We have talked about Alcaraz, but I also mention Sinner, Rune & Fritz. He has to look at why the new generation of players is so good, what they do better & what’s different,” said Becker.

Alexander Zverev returns to action at the 2023 Italian Open, where he will face David Goffin in the second round. The German is seeded 19th in Rome, as he looks to have a decent run before going into the French Open. Alexander Zverev managed to reach the fourth round of the Madrid Masters, where he was ousted by Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets.
