Danish tennis player Holger Rune’s coach Boris Becker admitted that it is misleading to think Carlos Alcaraz can win 20 Grand Slams. Carlos Alcaraz is currently being portrayed as the successor to the Big 3. However, Becker does not seem to believe that it is possible to win 20 Grand Slams again.
Former German tennis player Boris Becker enjoyed a remarkable career. Achieving the pinnacle as World No. 1, he’s also earned a place in the International Tennis Hall of Fame, thanks to his six singles Grand Slam titles. Notably, he once coached Novak Djokovic to victory in six Grand Slam tournaments. Presently, Becker is coaching the current World No. 6, Holger Rune.
He said:
It's almost impossible to avoid comparison with Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. But please give him time to develop, so that he doesn't lose interest in the sport, because we still need him for a few years.
He further admitted that it is ‘misleading’ to assume that Alcaraz can surpass these three players.
I am convinced that three players will never again win 20 Grand Slam tournaments at the same time.
However, he also bestowed high praise on the young Spaniard. He stated:
He is very important for the tennis scene, a great ambassador. Also, last but not least, a great successor of the Big-3.
Becker believes that Carlos Alcaraz might follow in the footsteps of the Big 3 in tennis. However, he’s uncertain whether another player can reach the milestone of winning 20 Grand Slam titles.
Carlos Alcaraz is considered to be one of the new Big 3 by many
Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz is leaving a significant impact on the tennis scene. Remarkably, at only 20 years old, he has already secured two Grand Slam titles, one of which was his victory over Novak Djokovic in the 2023 Wimbledon final.

While Alcaraz is often mentioned as part of the new Big 3, two other names linked to that title are Holger Rune and Jannik Sinner. Both players are currently performing at their peak, and they stand as strong contenders to uphold the legacy of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic in the world of tennis.
The original Big 3, Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic, collectively boast an impressive 66 Grand Slam titles, significantly shaping the sport for over two decades. With Federer’s retirement and Nadal’s injury-induced absence, Djokovic stands as the sole remaining player from that era. Nevertheless, it remains uncertain whether this new generation of talented youngsters can even approach the remarkable achievements of the veteran trio.
