Boris Becker recently opined in an interview that Novak Djokovic will most likely become friends with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal once he retires from tennis.

He gave an example of his relationship with Andre Agassi to substantiate his point, saying that it is difficult for any player to be friends with their on-field rivals while they are still playing. However, after retirement, there is nothing but respect for those rivals in most players’ hearts.

Andre Agassi was unarguably Boris Becker’s biggest rival throughout the length of his career. Becker had won their first meeting at the 1988 Newsweek Champions Cup. They only met five times in Grand Slams, and Andre Agassi won four of those matches. Agassi won eight Grand Slams, i.e., two more than Becker.

We literally fought each other on the tennis court, with every opportunity you have. That's why this big fan base developed for our games, because everyone knew that they play for everything, that they don't give each other anything and that's what defines them. They are people that I respect and that I enjoy spending time with. That would have been unthinkable when I was active.

The German has thus predicted the same for Djokovic, Rafa, and Federer, saying that the Serb has the greatest respect for the two of them.

Novak Djokovic obviously has the greatest respect for Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal. This may lead to a friendship in a few years.
