Boris Becker believes Rafael Nadal will only return to the court if he believes he has a chance to win more titles. In the all-time men’s singles standings, Nadal is only two Grand Slam behind Novak Djokovic, but he has not played since hurting his hip in January during the Australian Open. After undergoing surgery for the condition, the 37-year-old is still a long way from returning.
The tennis veteran told Eurosport in an exclusive interview that Rafael Nadal will only return to action if he believes that he has a chance of winning more silverware.
Rafael Nadal had to take a sabbatical from tennis due to an ailment. His initial recovery time was set at five months. Now, It is unknown when or if Nadal will make his return. Nadal is no stranger to going the distance. He has 92 ATP singles titles to his name, including 22 Grand Slam. He is one of only two athletes to have achieved the Career Golden Slam of four Majors plus Olympic gold in men’s singles.
The six-time Grand Slam champion stated that Nadal’s ultimate goal will always be Paris, potentially the Olympics in Paris in 2024, which will be played on clay at Roland Garros. He stated that he will require legendary match practice, which he will only be able to obtain through tournaments. As a result, he will struggle to get started. The 55-year-old stated that he would most likely get kicked at first. However, assuming he remains healthy through the clay season. He said, “Then he’ll have had his ten, 15 matches – and I would never bet against Rafael Nadal on clay.”

Boris Becker believes Rafael Nadal will come back to win tournaments
The former Wimbledon champion believes that Nadal will only return to the sport if he truly believes he can win more titles. According to Becker, Nadal is a role model for everyone and millions of fans across the world want to see him return to the court. They don’t want to see him in a press conference when he reveals that he might not be able to play again.
The tennis legend said, “I also believe that he would never come back if he doesn’t see a chance for himself. So, he’s not coming back to play the first or second round, but to win tournaments.”
Nadal’s uncle and former coach Toni Nadal gave a positive update on the former World No. 1’s injury recuperation in an interview with Spain’s ElDesmarque de Cuatro. He also stated that the Spaniard hopes to return to the Australian Open in 2024, depending on his physical recovery.
