Former tennis legend Boris Becker is one of the greatest players who had dominated men’s tennis for almost 15 years. He shot to fame by winning Wimbledon just at the age of 17. He retired from the sport with 49 ATP singles titles and six Grand Slam singles titles. But he faced the inevitable when he landed in prison. He made a huge revelation regarding the visitors

Despite being a great player, he has often landed himself in controversies. In April 2022, he was sentenced to two and a half years of imprisonment. He faced charges of tax fraud and hiding assets worth £4.5M to avoid paying the debt after being bankrupt in 2017. Moreover, Becker auctioned 82 items from his personal collection including the 1989 US Open trophy, the only title won in New York.

The former German player has been freed after serving eight months in prison out of his 30 months jail term. After his release, he was asked if any visitors had been banned from meeting him. He revealed that the Liverpool manager had come to meet him in prison but was denied. He admitted that Klopp was denied entry because of safety reasons that come with his popularity.

During an interview with SAT.1, Boris Becker also stated that German television presenter, Johannes B Kerner were banned from meeting him in the prison. Becker first served his term in the Wandsworth Prison in South London. Further, he was sent to the Huntercombe Prison in Oxfordshire where he spent the majority of his prison time. The jail consists majorly of criminals from foreign countries awaiting their deportation.

The 55-year-old shared about the challenges he faced in jail. He revealed that he was addressed by his number, rather than his name. He admitted that it served as a blessing in disguise though it proved to be quite expensive. Boris Becker further stated that it was quite a painful experience for him. He went ahead to state that stardom serves no importance for any of the jail inmates.

The 6-time Grand Slam champion event broke down while talking about his life in the UK prison. He talked about the horrifying food he used to get. Boris Becker also claimed about always living in fear as there was no guarantee about what someone else is doing behind you. He then went on to reveal that a fellow inmate had even threatened to pay him money or would kill him.

The German Federation is eagerly waiting with open hands to welcome the 3-time Wimbledon champion. They have offered the former World No 1 a job in the Federation as per his choice of role and nature of the job. Becker has already been part of the German Federation as the head of men’s tennis from 2017 to 2020. The retired tennis player will not be returning to a German prison for his sentence. However, he will be monitored closely till the duration of his sentence gets completed.
