Novak Djokovic’s former coach, Boris Becker, has opined that he never wants the Serb to retire after his timeless classic comeback win over Carlos Alcaraz in the Cincinnati Open final. Alcaraz had won the first set in the match, but the 36-year-old then came back from behind in sensational fashion in what ended up being one of the best matches in a long while without an iota of doubt.

“I hope Djokovic will play forever. These are the duels that make the tennis heart beat faster: the most successful player of all time, Novak Djokovic, against the primus, the best in class, also No. 1 in the world rankings. You can’t imagine anything better. It was a fabulous match in Cincinnati,” Boris Becker said to Eurosport

Even Novak Djokovic claimed after the final that it was hands down one of the most challenging matches he has ever played in his career. After his loss against Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final, this win marked his comeback, where he showed the world that he is still the best in the world and is not done yet.

Novak Djokovic’s former coach, Boris Becker, recently talked about what might have happened if he played against his student in his prime. Becker, who had won 3 Wimbledon Titles in his career, claimed that although he would not have any chance against the Serb on clay, he might have defeated him on grass.

“My game against him (Novak) would have involved a high level of risk, but I could have beaten him on grass,” Boris Becker said.

“I wouldn’t have had a chance against him on clay. But on grass and indoors I would have played the way I just played – with a lot of pressure and power. I would have tried to play the game very quickly and give him little time,” he added.

Novak Djokovic has ended his preparatory phase for the US Open on a high note by winning the Cincinnati Open. He will now travel to Queens, where the Grand Slam will start from 28th August.
