American tennis professional Coco Gauff scripted history with a finals win at the US Open last Saturday. The 19-year-old beat top seed, Aryna Sabalenka, to become the youngest American to win the title after Serena Williams won it last in 1999 at age 17. The youngster’s coach, Brad Gilbert, recently revealed how the champion and her team celebrated her win.

Coco Gauff beat her Belarussian counterpart in a thrilling three-setter. With a score of 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, the American outlasted Sabalenka out of competition to claim her first-ever Grand Slam title. She celebrated the victory with her team afterward.

Since the new US Open champion is only 19 years old, Coco Gauff celebrated her win by chugging down water at her after-party. Brad Gilbert, the coach who has trained big names like Andre Agassi and Andy Roddick, revealed that he celebrated the big win last Saturday with booze. “We celebrated hard. She was drinking water. I had a little too much tequila,” Gilbert told the media.

Following her win at the US Open, Gauff scaled up the rankings on the WTA list. Prior to the US Open, Gauff was positioned as the World No.6. Defeating the World No.1, Aryna Sabalenka, Gauff is now positioned at No.3 on the rankings list.

Brad Gilbert has high praise for ‘humble’ Coco Gauff

The star coach of the new US Open Champion, Brad Gilbert recently praised Gauff. At 19, Gauff became only the third American teenager to win a US Open after Tracy Austin and Serena Williams.

Talking about Gauff, Gilbert told the media that she was “an incredible kid”. He further pointed out that the teenager is humble and a hard worker who’s just getting started. “She would tell you, it’s just about getting better. Listen, everyone wants to do incredible things but she has a great opportunity in front of her to continue to do some great things,” Gilbert said. (H/T: TMZ)

“She’s incredibly humble and she’s poised, she speaks incredible for her age, and her parents have done an amazing job. She’s got a great team and just fun to let me be a part of it,” the former American player stated.
