Coco Gauff discusses the addition of Andre Agassi and Andy Roddick’s former coach, Brad Gilbert, to her team. Gauff has reached the semifinals of the Cincinnati Open after defeating qualifier Jasmine Paolini 6-3, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.
She has had a good season so far, as she won the Citi Open. In her post-match interview with Tennis Channel’s Prakash Amritraj, the seventh seed shared her opinion on the veteran tennis coach joining her squad.
She remarked that the former American player has imparted a lot of wisdom about tennis and has also taught her the right technique to play the points. The 62-year-old coach has also helped the star increase her mental fortitude.
She added that he was able to improve her approach to matches in big situations. She claimed that he was one of the best tennis minds out there and that everyone would agree since they had seen him commentate and give advice firsthand on ESPN.
“He’s just making me be serious, but we’re all enjoying the game and having a lot of fun, and we’re really thriving and excited for those tough matchups. And just taking every point, being physical at every point—and I think that’s the best advice he’s given me in such a short amount of time,” she added.
Gauff has already begun to like his inclusion in a short amount of time. She parted ways with her coach, Diego Moyano, in April of this year. The reason for parting was stated as “personal” issues.
The 19-year-old cleared the air by saying that it was his decision to leave and that they are both still on amicable terms. She later toured with her father, Cori Gauff, and then hired the Spanish coach Pera Riba in June. The World No. 7 has seen great results after adding Brad Gilbert for consulting since the Citi Open.

The American tennis player Coco Gauff clashed with World No. 1 Iga Swiatek in the semifinals of the Cincinnati Open on Saturday. The 19-year-old triumphed over the top-seeded player in an astonishing match with a scoreline of 7-6 (7), 3-6, 6-4. This marks her first win over the Pole. She managed to break her streak of seven consecutive losses against Swiatek.
Gauff also became the first teenager to reach the Cincinnati final since Vera Zvenoreva in 2004. Speaking about the match, she said, “I knew playing her was going to be tough.” “I really took my opportunities when I got them, and I really just fought every point.” She will now face Czech player Karolina Muchova in the finals on Sunday.
