Australian Open main draw is just a couple of days away and a series of injury-forced withdrawals is already the biggest news from Melbourne. Joining the list now are Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic and Spain’s Paula Badosa. The news of their withdrawal 48 hours before the tournament hurt their fans. Some of them called it a ‘Break Point’ curse.

Earlier some of the big names have withdrawn from the season’s first Grand Slam citing unfortunate injuries. Spanish World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz and American tennis legend Venus Williams too have pulled out. The latest withdrawal of Badosa and Tomlijanovic kept social media busy for some time. 

Some of the fans call the latest pull-out a ‘Break-Point curse’, referring to the just-launched Netflix docuseries about tennis. Badosa and Tomljanovic were the two prominent stars from the women’s side. 

Yesterday WTA posted a short video celebrating the featured women stars in the series. “From Center Court to center stage. Tennis and its cast of characters are ready for the close-up,” the tweet read. The short video features Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, Tunisian World No. 2 Ons Jabeur,  27-year-old Greek Maria Sakkari, Paula Badosa, and Ajla Tomljanovicwere featured.

Break Point

As part of the first installment, five episodes have been dropped. On the women’s side Ons Jabeur, Paula Badosa, Ajla Tomljanovic, and Maria Sakkari are the ones featured. The show captures the emotional upheaval, personal lives, and on-court ups and downs of these stars.

In the series, Paula Badosa is seen sharing the overall experience tennis has given her. “This sport is a drug,” she said. “It’s super addictive. The wins and the feeling you get, the adrenaline it gives you’re chasing that all the time,” She explained. 

But after the duo pulled out just 48 hours before the scheduled start of the Australian Open, fans could not keep it quiet. One of the fans wrote, ‘Break Point’ curse. Here are some other interesting tweets.
