Matteo Berrettini, one of the biggest contenders for the title of Wimbledon 2022 has suffered a huge tragedy as he crashes out of Wimbledon due to being CoVID positive. Berrettini was in great form after his return from the wrist injury. He won both of the grass courts tournaments, he played in. He beat Andy Murray in Stuttgart Open final and then defended his Queen’s Club crown against Filip Krajinovic as he beat him in straight sets.

Wimbledon 2022 was the first time in two years when the public came flocking in their usual very high pre-pandemic numbers to witness the matches at Wimbledon in all their glory. But, things have taken quite a nasty turn with some players dropping out of the Championships after being CoVID positive. Marin Cilic, the Wimbledon finalist in 2017 had announced his departure from Wimbledon due to CoVID.

Berrettini broke the unfortunate news of his withdrawal on Instagram as he informed the fans that he will be withdrawing from the tournament due to being CoVID positive. It was a huge hit for Berrettini, who would not only lose his 1200 points from Wimbledon 2021 but also lost his chance to show his incredible form on grass. This news has caused a lot of outrage regarding the testing procedures as it might also mean that some more players may be CoVID positive throughout the event.

Matteo’s exit would make the life easier for the players in the bottom half of the draw but till now two very big players have withdrawn from the event due to being CoVID positive, and it would be great news for the tournament if this doesn’t cause a domino effect where other players too might start testing positive. For now, the tournament lies in a precarious condition as the fans would be hoping that there are no such shocks going forward.
