Spanish maestro Rafael Nadal makes a much-awaited comeback at the 2024 Brisbane International. After a year of injuries and surgeries, the 37-year-old finally comes back for a supposed last season to give his amazing career a proper farewell. He will take on the very experienced Dominic Thiem on January 2nd.

The 30-year-old Thiem also looks to start his year with a win against one of the best. After two back-to-back wins in the initial stages of the tournament, the Austrian makes it to the round of 32 to face the Spaniard in a highly anticipated match.

Dominic Thiem overcame two rounds of the qualifiers to land himself a date with the best. He beat James Mccabe in a three-set miracle, followed by another three-setter against the 12th seed, Giulio Zeppieri, to get himself another match. 

Since the 2020 miracle, the Austrian has not been able to replicate the same and will look to do so with some convincing performances at the first tournament of the year.

Rafael Nadal, who is short on court time, will look to utilize more of this ATP Tour to gain some momentum and confidence before the big challenge at the Australian Open. 

The Spaniard himself is not confident in his form and has already declared not playing for any Slam. However, tennis enthusiasts and other players believe otherwise. They reckon Rafa will return like always and play at the same level.
