Rafael Nadal vs. Jordan Thompson: Match Preview
Nadal, who is making his comeback in this tournament after missing out on the entire 2023 season due to a hip injury that he suffered during the 2023 Australian Open, has looked extremely sharp so far in the Brisbane International. He won his first two matches in the tournament with absolute ease, both in straight sets. The Spaniard defeated Dominic Thiem 7-6, 6-1 in the first round and Jason Kubler 6-1, 6-2 in the second round.
Jordan Thompson had a comparatively easier route to the quarterfinals. He defeated Aleksandar Vukic in the first round of the tournament while seeded player Ugo Humbert, his second-round opponent, walked over, which gave the Australian a direct opportunity to face Nadal in the next round.
Rafael Nadal vs. Jordan Thompson: Match Prediction
Nadal and Thompson have played two matches against each other so far, and both of those matches were won by the Spaniard. The Australian has never been able to defeat the 22-time Grand Slam champion so far and he would have to defy the odds to do it now in the quarterfinal of the 2024 Brisbane International.
They first met in 2020 at the 2020 Paris Masters and then at the 2022 French Open. On both occasions, Nadal defeated Thompson in straight sets. Although he is coming out of an injury, he has seemed to be in fine form in the first two matches, which hints that the result of the upcoming match between him and Thompson will be the same.
Prediction: Nadal wins in two sets.
