British No. 5 Liam Broady takes to his social media to announce his withdrawal from the upcoming Australian Open due to an injury that became worse at the Hong Kong Open.
The 30-year-old Brit started his season at the Hong Kong Open, where he overcame the qualifying rounds to enter the main draw.

He beat Pedro Cachin in two straight sets to face No. 1 seed Andrey Rublev. The Russian took the first set to his name before Broady made an uphill climb, and, unable to reach the summit, he lost to Rublev 4-6,6(8)-7. Recently, the Brit shocked the world by withdrawing from the Australian Open.
He revealed that he had two bone stresses in his ankle, which got worse in Hong Kong and did not allow him to move freely during his match against Rublev.
Not wanting to stress even further and also wanting to give someone else a chance to try and reach the main stage, the Brit withdrew from the qualifying round.
Replacing him is the Frenchman Laurent Lokoli, who will take on Federico Gaio in the qualifiers with hopes of making it to the grand stage.

During his match against Rublev, the Brit was seen taking a medical timeout, and soon he revealed that his MRI scan showed strains on his ankle.
Although he can play injured and take the prize money offered by AO and ATP, the 30-year-old gives this opportunity to the next person who can play the qualifiers 100% fit and hopefully enter the main draw.
Although tempting to play injured and take full prize money I felt it wasn’t right when other competitors have a better chance fully fit.Said Broady on X.
As the saying goes, ‘good deed never goes to waste’, Broady gets help with the cost of his trips from ATP and AO. They gave him a full travel grant, covering the expenses.
The Brit thanks them and hopes to return soon. Even Rafael Nadal withdrew from the Slam due to an injury, but the tournament must go on as others get a chance to shine.
