Spanish World No.2 Carlos Alcaraz cruises to the fourth round of the US Open and he is ready to match one of Roger Federer’s records here. Since 2008, No tennis player other than Roger Federer has been able to retain their title here. After a devastating loss by the Swiss legend against Juan Martin Del Potro in the finals of the US Open 2009, the streak was broken. Since then, each year there have been different champions in the tournament.

The US Open official handle posted the on-court interview of the reigning champion with the caption, “Carlos Alcaraz wants to follow in Roger Federer’s footsteps and defend the title for the first time since Federer.” Alcaraz said, “I know that no other man defended the title here since Roger. I would love to be part of the tournament history with him.” For the uninitiated, the young Spaniard took care of the 26th-seed British player Dan Evans to make it to the fourth round in four sets: 6-2, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.

The on-court interview clearly showed that the Spaniard is fully aware of what awaits him if he is able to go through this difficult draw. Comparatively having a much easier draw for Novak Djokovic in the other half of the draw, the Spanish top player is expected to beat the Serbian World No.1 if he reaches there. According to the projected draw, respectively Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev are his quarter-final and semi-final opponents.

As the Spanish World No.2 Carlos Alcaraz is aware, his path to greatness here is quite difficult this time. Though his next-round opponent, the Italian unseeded player Matteo Arnaldi is not expected to be a difficult match for Alcaraz, the rounds following that will be quite a task for the Spanish star.
