Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz set up the highly anticipated Wimbledon final by completely overpowering Daniil Medvedev on Friday. He achieved a resounding 6-3 6-3 6-3 triumph against the Russian. The remarkable 20-year-old player will now engage in a highly awaited clash against 36-year-old and seven-time champion Novak Djokovic. Earlier on Centre Court, Djokovic comfortably defeated Italian Jannik Sinner, securing his spot in a 35th Grand Slam final.

Throughout the first seven games played under the roof, there was a sense that this could be a competitive match. The third-seeded Medvedev, also in his first Wimbledon semi-final, managed to keep up with the top seed, Alcaraz. However, once Alcaraz broke Medvedev’s serve to take a 5-3 lead in the opening set, it became apparent that he had taken control. Alcaraz then proceeded to deliver a masterful performance, effortlessly utilizing his wide range of skills to ruthlessly dismantle the 27-year-old player.

The Spaniard showed immense respect to the Serbian and declared him the complete player. He said, “Well, I grew up watching him, as well. I mean, he has beating all the big guys, Roger and Rafa, when he was younger.”

“Being the guy he is right now, everything he has been through is amazing. As I said before, he has no weakness.” He continued, “He’s really complete guy, really complete player. He’s amazing. He does nothing wrong on the court. Physically he’s a beast. Mentally he’s a beast. Everything is unbelievable for him. I think it’s a mix of everything that I admire him the most.”

The first seed will hope to find a way to beat the veteran Djokovic to claim his first-ever Wimbledon title and his second Grand Slam.

At the young age of 20, Carlos Alcaraz has already established himself as one of the prominent figures in modern tennis, accumulating numerous titles. Despite only bursting onto the scene a mere two years ago, he has already defeated some of the most formidable players in the industry, making a resounding impact and introducing himself to the world in a spectacular manner.

On the other hand, despite being 36 years old, Novak Djokovic shows no signs of slowing down, which is a testament to his enduring skill and dedication. His name is already etched in the history books, and his records are formidable, making it a monumental task for any future star to even come close to matching them. He has displayed some vulnerability recently in Grand Slam finals, particularly by losing the first set in his recent victories over Nick Kyrgios and Matteo Berrettini, as well as struggling physically in the opening set against Casper Ruud at Roland Garros this year.

However, it remains uncertain whether a similar scenario will unfold against a player of Alcaraz’s caliber. Djokovic recognized the importance of taking the initiative from the outset in their previous encounter in Paris. He ended up winning that match. It is likely that he will adopt a similar strategy in the final, aiming to assert dominance early on and exploit any doubts Alcaraz may have. Ultimately, it will be Alcaraz’s challenge to overcome those doubts and rise above them in order to compete at his highest level.
