While the hottest rivalry in tennis involved three players- Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Roger Federer till a few years back, it is about only two players now. Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz are the only two players on the tour who are really challenging each other and the results of the four Grand Slams this year just testify that. But is Carlos Alcaraz at the same level as Djokovic? Renowned tennis expert, Radmilo Armenulić does not think so.

The former Serbian tennis player has made a strong remark about the comparison between the two players saying that Alcaraz can’t even match 10% of the success Djokovic has achieved in his career so far. Armenulić went on to the extent where he said that he does not like Alcaraz one bit. The Serbian, interestingly, criticized Alcaraz for his behavior while Djokovic’s critics say the same about the 24-time Grand Slam winner.

Nevertheless, Armenulić also claimed that let alone Djokovic, Alcaraz cannot even match Daniil Medvedev‘s level. It is worth mentioning that the 20-year-old Spaniard lost to Medvedev in the 2023 US Open semifinals.

“[Carlos] Alcaraz is not the capacity of either Medvedev or Novak. We will be waiting a long time for three players like Djokovic, Nadal and Federer to appear who will rule tennis. Alcaraz is not a capacity that will reach the level of Novak, not even 10 percent of his success. I don’t like him as a player at all, and not even in terms of behavior,” said Armenulić to Kurir [translated from Serbian via Google and edited].

Is Carlos Alcaraz really not even at 10% of Novak Djokovic’s level?

While Radmilo Armenulić denies accepting, Novak Djokovic himself has heaped praise on Carlos Alcaraz on multiple occasions. The Serbian has openly admitted that Alcaraz is the only player on the tour currently who pushes him to his limits. After the 36-year-old lost to Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final, Djokovic said that playing against the Spaniard felt like he had never faced anyone like him before.

Djokovic admitted that Alcaraz has got some or the other qualities of all three- Federer, Nadal, and himself. Then after, the Cincinnati Masters final wherein Djokovic defeated Alcaraz in a three-set thriller, the Serbian compared Alcaraz to Rafael Nadal. He went on to say that the four-hour grind reminded him of the Australian Open final against Nadal in 2012. Djokovic has lauded Alcaraz for being more mature than it is for a 20-year-old.

Now, coming to the head-to-head record between the two players, it stays level at 2-2. While Alcaraz beat Djokovic at the Madrid Open semifinals and Wimbledon final, the Serbian beat Alcaraz in the Cincinnati Masters final and French Open semifinal. There was so much anticipation for another Djokovic vs Alcaraz battle at the Flushing Meadows but it did not happen. Now, the hope will be to see one at the Australian Open.
