Former tennis player and a legend of the game, Jimmy Connors, knows a thing or two about spotting talents from a very young age and has now given his thoughts regarding 2023 Wimbledon winner Carlos Alcaraz. Accounted by many as the next big thing in tennis, the Spaniard is just getting started in terms of making a mark in the history of the sport picking up his second Grand Slam title, dethroning Novak Djokovic last week.
Jimmy has talked about how much of an impact the Spaniard can make by the time he turns 33-34. He talked to ‘Advantage Connors Podcast‘ saying, “If Carlos Alcaraz plays until he is 33. So, he has got 13 years. Let’s just say he plays for 12 more years, that is 48 more slams. And if he doesn’t get too full of himself, I would say 15.”
Alcaraz has been warned by Connor told not to get too driven away in the future, which can have a devastating impact on his career. Alcaraz has a huge variety of shots playing and very few players in this era are as good as him in terms of technicality and presence of mind. So Jimmy feels that Alcaraz himself can only cause a downfall if there will be any in his upcoming illustrious career to come.
Does Carlos Alcaraz have to ability to dethrone every single player by the time he retires?
Alcaraz has taken the whole tennis fraternity by storm since his arrival into the sport. Being taken by many at one point in time as one of the potential next-gen stars to already lift two Grand Slam titles at the age of just 20, it has been nothing short of sheer appreciation. Well, every single tennis generation had two or three big names surrounding the sport with the same two-three guys winning titles every single time.
Unfortunately same cannot be said for the current era fans are about to witness in the coming days. Carlos has been at a level of his own defeating and knocking out every single opponent he has played against in the last few months. Novak has reached 23 Grand Slam titles, becoming the first-ever male player to do so, but Alcaraz is already looking strong to challenge for that feat.
