World No. 1 and teenage sensation Carlos Alcaraz made history at Wimbledon 2023 by becoming the third-youngest player in the Open Era to secure his first men’s singles title. He defeated Serbia’s Novak Djokovic in a five-set thriller, ending his remarkable 45-match winning streak on Centre Court. In his post-match interview, he not only hailed Djokovic as an inspiration but also took a cheeky dig at Roger Federer over his All-England Club card, promising he would not forget to bring his when he becomes a member.

“It’s very special for me. I have to bring the card. I know Roger Federer had trouble getting in without the card! It’s really special to be a member of this amazing club, really iconic. I will come for sure,” the Spaniard said.

Carlos Alcaraz’s historic triumph at Wimbledon 2023 was a dream come true for him. He said that even if he had lost, he would have been proud of himself. “I said before it would be so good to win but even if would have lost I would be really proud of myself. Making history in this beautiful tournament, playing a final against a legend of the sport. It’s a dream come true. It was unbelievable to play in these stages. It’s amazing for a boy – 20 years-old – I didn’t expect to reach this situation really fast. I am really proud of myself, I am really proud for the team and the work we put in every day to be able to lift this.”

Alcaraz paid tribute to Djokovic after ending his remarkable 45-match winning run on Centre Court. He hailed Djokovic as ‘amazing’ and an inspiration, saying he inspires him a lot. “I have to congratulate Novak. It was amazing to play against him,” Alcaraz said. “You inspire me a lot. I started playing tennis watching you. Since I was born you were already winning tournaments. You said 36 is the new 26 and you make that happen. It’s amazing.”

Notably, his victory at Wimbledon 2023 is his 2nd title in 4 grass court tournaments played in his entire career. He has played only 4 tournaments on grass but has managed to win an ATP 500 at the Queen’s Club Championships, and a Slam here at Wimbledon. Carlos is turning out to be the next dominant force on grass.

Carlos Alcaraz’s future is bright, and he has already established himself as a worthy No. 1 in the tennis rankings. His victory at Wimbledon 2023 is just the beginning of what promises to be a long and successful career.
