Carlos Alcaraz started his 2023 Wimbledon Championships with a bang picking up a straight sets victory over Jeremy Chardy, defeating him by 6-0, 6-2, 7-5. Fans were absolutely thrilled with his dominance and his effort on the grass court with many hoping that he might be able to stop Novak Djokovic from lifting his 5th straight Wimbledon title. The Spaniard was asked a couple of questions during the post-match conference with most questions circulating around him and Novak.
One of the reporters named Andy from The Sun asked Carlos how he feels about being the only real competition in the path of Djokovic in this tournament and what he feels like being watched by Djokovic. Carlos replied by saying that he feels that Djokovic might watch his matches but doesn’t feel that Novak is controlling all he is doing.
He also added that he is not focusing completely on watching Djokovic’s movements and his matches saying, “Well, I don’t feel that. Probably he is watching my matches, he’s controlling all I’m doing. Probably he does that. But I don’t feel that he’s 100% focused on my game, focused on my matches. It’s like everyone talking about me. I’m watching his matches, that’s obviously, but not the whole match. I think he does the same as me.”
Will Carlos Alcaraz finally go the distance this year at the Wimbledon Championships?
Carlos Alcaraz is regarded as the next big thing in the tennis world after he dethroned Djokovic of the World No. 1 spot last week after winning the Queen’s Club Championships. Fans feel that the Spaniard will be able to stop Novak’s dominance at Wimbledon. Alcaraz hasn’t quite made a mark at the competition in his past participations and believes that he can bag his first Wimbledon trophy this year.
Many pundits believe that after going into the competition as the top-seeded player and after having recently won the Queen’s Club Championships on the grass, he has made himself quite ready to bring his best and excel on the grass. He has already shown great character in his first-round victory over Chardy and only time will tell if he can turn out to be the force that fans are expecting out of him.
