Players often say that the rankings don’t really matter to them. Well, honestly, it does have some impact, for sure. Everyone wants to get to the top. That exclusive World No. 1 title means a lot to these players. The fact that from 2004 to 2022, the tennis world saw only four players get to that spot shows how tough it is to scale tennis’ peak.

Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray held the no. 1 spot for 18 years. A certain Daniil Medvedev broke the rut, and a sign of new talent was seen. His two competitors are the ones who have tasted the icing very recently, and it has been short-lived. We are talking about Daniil Medvedev and Carlos Alcaraz.
