While the Serb has decided to take a break from events for a while, he will make a return to court at the Paris Masters event, which will begin on October 30, 2023. With that being said, there was no denying that the indoor event, for Alcaraz, was an opportunity for him to close in on the gap in points.

Officials for the upcoming tournament confirmed the news in a post on Instagram. They started with an injury as the cause of his withdrawal from the tournament. The statement read, “Alcaraz had to cancel his start at the Swiss Indoors (October 21–29) today due to an injury. According to his doctor’s bulletin, the world number two is suffering from an inflammation of the sole of his left foot and problems in his gluteal muscles.”

The officials further stated that three-time Grand Slam title winner Stan Wawrinka will be in the main draw to claim the spot previously held by Alcaraz. Swiss tennis player Leandro Riedi will get a wildcard entry into the event, scheduled to begin in Basel this week. The defending champion Felix Auger-Aliassime, Stan Wawrinka, and Dominic Stricker were some of the other players that were awarded wildcards before the release of the main draw.

The Swiss said, “Alcaraz is great. I mean, look, he’s still young & everything that he has achieved is fantastic. And not just on clay or just on hard. But also now winning Wimbledon against Novak in the final.. that is no joke. I mean he didn’t need to really prove that point but that’s another super asterisk in his CV.”

A huge number of tennis enthusiasts claim that Carlos Alcaraz has the combined game of the Big 3, which makes him an unstoppable force among the current generation of tennis players.
