Carlos Alcaraz has delivered a stellar 2023 season. The Spaniard added six titles to his name and bagged his second Grand Slam trophy after lifting the prestigious Wimbledon singles title this season.
However, despite adding several laurels to his list of achievements, Alcaraz’s fitness has taken a hit, leading to a dip in his performance. Most recently, Holger Rune‘s coach and German tennis legend Boris Becker provided a plausible explanation for the Spaniard’s recurrent fitness status that has halted his on-court dominance.
While talking in a recent interview, the six-time Grand Slam title champion divulged his insight on the 20-year-old’s possible fitness struggles, linking such issues as a possible cause for losing “motivation.”
My feeling has always been that when motivation goes down, the body suffers. If you skip some training sessions, the chances of getting injured or suffering physical discomfort are much greater.Said Boris Becker via Punto de Break.
The German further highlighted his experience and claimed that the Spaniard’s situation is a common trend among prevailing players on the Tour.

Boris Becker expresses confidence in Carlos Alcaraz and his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero in maintaining a sound 2024 season
Former German tennis star Boris Becker recently expressed faith in Carlos Alcaraz’s coach Juan Carlos Ferrero’s ability to help the Spaniard restore his fitness level for the upcoming 2024 season.
While having a conversation in the same interview, the six-time major champion directed attention to the World No. 2’s promising fitness condition he witnessed during his ATP Finals campaign. He claimed that the same would help him make an optimistic start to the coming season.
I know that Juan Carlos has recognized certain difficulties in keeping Carlitos (Carlos Alcaraz) in his best shape throughout the year, but I am convinced that the two of them will be able to correct that. "I saw Carlos in good physical shape in Turin and I think he will start the season very motivated.He said
The 20-year-old is scheduled to lock horns with Serbian Novak Djokovic during a much-awaited exhibition match in Riyadh before he commences the 2024 season.
