In the post-match interview, he expressed his emotions by saying, “I am proud of myself. Honestly, I don’t know why I cried because I fought until the last ball. I almost beat one of the greatest players in our sport. It’s crazy to talk about it now, but I left the court really, really happy with what I did.”

Fans have been praising Alcaraz for being vulnerable and honest with his emotions. A fan tweeted, “Carlos Alcaraz heave-crying into a towel after losing an absolute war with Djokovic in Cincinnati is a good example of how galactic a heart that kid has.”

Many have been commenting that this match was World No. 2’s chance to assert his dominance over the Spaniard. Djokovic had recently lost his chance to become the 24th Grand Slam winner as Alcaraz defeated him to become the Wimbledon champion.

The 23-time grand slam winner Novak Djokovic avenged his Wimbledon loss with a thrilling victory in a long 3 hours and 49 minutes match at the Cincinnati Open final.

The Serb has often referred to his nemesis as a reflection of the King of Clay, Rafael Nadal. In his post-match interview, he was quoted as saying, “The feeling that I have on the court reminds me a little bit of when I was facing Nadal when we were at our prime.”

World No. 1 responded to this by saying that he was grateful to be compared to one of the greatest and that this proves that he is on a good path. “Obviously, for me, it’s great that he knows that every time he’s going to play against me, it reminds him of playing against Rafa or against the best ones because that means we are on a good path,” Alcaraz said.
