With his victory over British player Dan Evans at the ongoing event in Shanghai, Carlos Alcaraz overtook former US Open winner, Andy Roddick, to rise to the second spot on the list of players with the most ATP Masters 1000 wins on a hard court.

Alcaraz ousted 30th seed, Dan Evans, at their Round of 32 match yesterday. He demolished his opponent in straight sets, scoring a 7-6, 6-4 victory. With his recent victory, the Spaniard reached a new milestone as he won his 34th match at the ATP Masters event. With his recent match win, the 20-year-old surpassed the former American tennis player, Roddick, in Masters 1000 wins who is now placed at No.3 on the list with 33 wins.

22-times Grand Slam winner and former World No.1, Rafael Nadal, still holds the top spot on the list, leading Alcaraz with 6 match wins. The two Spaniards are placed at the top two positions on the rankings and Alcaraz is expected to oust Nadal out of his first place on the list very soon. The race to become the player with the most ATP Masters wins has become a battle of the generations as Alcaraz has climbed to the second spot before his 21st birthday. The current ATP Masters format was introduced in the year 1990.

In a two-set thriller, the players brought to court their vastly different playing styles on-court. Although the Spaniard won in straight sets, the match held much more grit than it can be explained.

The 20-year-old won with a score of 7-6, 6-4, which shows that Evans was playing at the highest level till the end of the game. However, it was ultimately the two-time Grand Slam champion who emerged victorious. “It was a really tough match. As I said, it was one of the toughest matches I’ve played outside the Grand Slams,” Alcaraz said in the press conference following the match. He also mentioned that every time he faced Dan, he knew within himself that it would be a tough match.
