Spanish tennis ace Carlos Alcaraz who will be making his debut at the Shanghai Masters has been presented with an independent locker room that was previously used by Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer for 12 years. The locker room has a giant poster of the 20-year-old as well as a board showing the name of the player who used it in the previous editions.
Notably, Shanghai Masters is making a return to the tour after four years, having last played in 2019. Alcaraz, who turned pro in 2018 has not played in Shanghai yet. He will be making his debut this year as a top seed, being ranked World No.2. The 20-year-old had expressed his excitement for the Asian swing after making an impact in all four Grand Slams.
The Spaniard walks into the ATP 1000 tournament as one of the title favorites and getting Roger Federer’s locker room must boost his morale. Alcaraz who said that playing on the same court where Rafael Nadal won his first Olympic gold medal (in China) felt special must be excited to own a locker room used by Federer.
A user on X shared the video of Alcaraz’s locker room at the Shanghai Masters. The post claimed that there are ten such locker rooms for the top players. While it did not reveal the details of the other nine rooms, it gave a detour of Alcaraz’s room. Earlier, on Tuesday, Holger Rune shared a video of his locker room at the Shanghai Masters.
Carlos Alcaraz is overwhelmed by the love he has received in China
Although Carlos Alcaraz missed out on the opportunity to make his debut at the China Open memorable by winning the title, the Spaniard was overwhelmed with the support and love he received from the local fans. Talking to CGTN after his defeat to Jannik Sinner in the China Open semis, Alcaraz revealed how he did not expect so much support being a debutant here.
“It’s been a great few days for me. I just played two matches and the energy and love I received is amazing. During practice which was just an hour or 45 minutes, the court was full. Walking out on the court and seeing my name in Spanish, was something I didn’t expect. I am really grateful to the Chinese people for the love,” said Alcaraz.
The Spaniard said that it was overwhelming as well as a bit surprising to see his fans at the stadium. He also talked about the gifts he received and how it was so special for the 20-year-old. “I am going to put it in my bedroom,” said Alcaraz about the Lego of his picture from the Wimbledon final he received from fans.
