Carlos Alcaraz’s form has seen a disappointing downfall ever since his Wimbledon triumph in 2023. Even at the start of the 2024 season, the Spaniard’s run has not been consistent. Owing to this, former American tennis player Andy Roddick took a dig at the Spaniard’s deteriorating form, giving rise to quite a bit of tension between the two.

Besides, the American also criticized the Spaniard for his serves. Following Roddick’s comment, Alcaraz’s coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, took a stand for the young Spaniard, highlighting how even though his service is not on point, his agility on the court covers up for it.

Furthermore, Ferrero also said that these fancy shots are created by Alcaraz on the spot and executed to perfection when the racquet touches the ball.

However, in a recent podcast, ‘Served with Andy Roddick’, the US Open winner looked at the bright side of Alcaraz’s career.

Even with this down time, the guy will only be 21 in a few months, and he already has 2 Grand Slam titles. I mean the guy could retire tomorrow and he'll already be a Hall of Famer.
Andy Roddick said.

That’s not all; Roddick even complimented the World No. 2 for winning two Grand Slam titles already before the age of 21.

However, I think we are all going to have to recalibrate ourselves and realize that Alcaraz's trajectory is much more reasonable than that of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. I worry about a lot of things in my life, but I'm not likely to worry about Alcaraz after a loss in Buenos Aires.

Carlos Alcaraz’s run hasn’t been up to his own standards recently. His recent performances in the 2024 season have also been of mixed sorts.

On one hand, he reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open and the Argentina Open. However, on the other side, he faced a major upset against Nicolas Jerry in his title defense at the Argentina Open. His quarterfinal performance against Alexander Zverev in Melbourne Park lacked spark. as he was clearly dominated by the German throughout the match.

The Spaniard faced an injury during the first round of the Rio Open. He is reported to have made a comeback during the exhibition match against Rafael Nadal in Las Vegas. He will be following that up with the Indian Wells Masters
