In Rome Open, Carlos Alcaraz fell short to Fabian Marozsan in the round of 32. After facing a tough loss at his Rome debut, the Spaniard graciously accepted his shortcomings and is focused on performing his best at the Roland Garros.

The US Open champion had an ‘outrageously’ perfect start to his this season’s clay campaign. He achieved back-to-back titles in Barcelona and Madrid. His consecutive trophy at the Madrid Open made him as the second player to achieve the record after his compatriot, Rafael Nadal. Alcaraz made his successful debut at the Italian Open after winning the first round against Albert Ramos-Vinolas.

With the ‘unexpected’ early exit in the second round of the Italian Open, the 20-year-old stated that he delivered his best and fought till the last point. The Spaniard also congratulated the Hungarian player for playing an outstanding tennis.

“I didn’t play too well, he has been at a very high level, which I have not been able to follow, and he has managed to maintain it throughout the game. That is very difficult. I have tried to fight until the last ball, but it has not been enough. The second set has been even, I’ve had my chances. I would say that I could have won that set if certain things hadn’t happened. He deserves the win”, he said at the press conference in Italy.

“I didn’t look at him much before the game. I just looked at a bunch of results on him in the Challengers and stuff. He was doing fine before he got here. Of course, he has surprised me a lot. His level of him was very, very high. I’m sure he will break into the Top 100 very soon. It was amazing to me”, he further added.

While looking at the positive side of defeat, Alcaraz will have time to prepare himself, both mentally and physically, for the championship trophy in Paris. He mentioned that his sole focus is to arrive in ‘good shape’ at the upcoming French Open.

“Now I am going to rest a little, a few days off. I need a few days to reset my mind a bit, to be fresh for Roland Garros. Of course, then to train. If I want to have good results in Paris, arrive in good shape, I have to train, be better. I haven’t been able to train for more than three or four days in a row, I’ve been playing a lot. It will help me a lot to have a few days at home training to prepare for Roland Garros”, he said.

Alcaraz won his first Indian Wells Masters title after defeating the World No.3 Daniil Medvedev in straight sets. He also reached the semi-finals of the Miami Open but fell short of the brilliant performance of Jannik Sinner.

Carlos Alcaraz won his first match at the Italian Open, as he defeated his fellow national, Albert Ramos-Vinolas, in straight sets. However, his successful debut was cut short after losing in the second round to Fabian Marozsan. With the French Open just days away, the Spaniard is focused on working on his shortcomings for a potential title in Paris.

The Indian Wells Masters champion has delivered quite impressive tennis on the clay surface. His sensational performance at the Barcelona and Madrid Open established him as one of the leading contenders for the French Open. His ‘aggressive’ and ‘adaptive’ style has become a huge hurdle for all the other competitors. After his recent performance in Rome, the Spaniard graciously accepted his defeat and stated that ‘bad days’ are part of the game.

“I was physically perfect, I just didn’t feel comfortable. It has made me uncomfortable on the track. He has been aggressive all the time, playing inside all the time. It has been hard for me to go into the game, in the exchanges. I have made many mistakes that I don’t usually make. Obviously these days can happen in tennis, you have to manage it”, he said at the media conference.

The 20-year-old will be playing as World No.1 in the French Open. On the question of his reaching the number one spot, the Spanish player is grateful for the achievement but is more focused on accomplishing great results at the upcoming Grand Slam.

“It’s fantastic to be the number one seed in a Grand Slam, in Paris. It is a tournament in which I want to get a good result. I try not to think about it. For me, it’s the same to be the first, second or third seed. The frame is probably the same in that classification. It’s great, but at the same time it’s not really useful for me”, he said.

Alcaraz won his second consecutive title at the Madrid Open after his spectacular victory over the lucky loser, Jan-Lennard Struff.
