In the final of the Indian Wells Open, Carlos Alcaraz outclassed Daniil Medvedev in straight sets, triumphing over the Russian with a score of 6-3, 6-2. This victory enabled Alcaraz to surpass Novak Djokovic in the ATP rankings. Medvedev had been on a winning streak, claiming titles in Rotterdam, Doha, and Dubai, making Alcaraz’s achievement all the more noteworthy.

In an impressive comeback, Carlos Alcaraz has reclaimed the coveted World No. 1 ranking from the reigning Australian Open champion, Novak Djokovic, just one month after losing it. Alcaraz achieved this feat following his second title win of the year, having emerged victorious in the Argentina Open where he defeated Cameron Norrie in the final.

After clinching the title, Alcaraz talked about missing Novak Djokovic. The duo hasn’t played since last year’s Madrid Open semifinals where the Spaniard got better of the world No.2. Alcaraz said, “I mean, Novak is one of the best players in the world. That’s obvious. You know, I will say that if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best. I really wanted to play against Novak again. We miss him on tour, and hopefully to have him back very, very soon. But yeah, of course it could be amazing to play against him again.”

On reaching the top spot once again he said, “Well, it feels great to be back on the No. 1, you know. Of course every player on the ATP wants to be No. 1, and for me it’s a dream come true again. Obviously being in front of such great players like Novak, like the top players, for me, it’s an amazing feeling.”

Alcaraz, the current US Open champion, is now set to compete in the Miami Open, which is the second half of the Sunshine Double. He won the tournament last year by defeating Casper Ruud in the final, securing his first-ever ATP Masters 1000 title. As the defending champion, Alcaraz will be looking to repeat his success and continue his impressive form in the competition.

The world No.1 will come to Miami with a lot of confidence and looks to continue his form. Winning Indian Wells without losing a set is definitely an achievement. Novak Djokovic has been denied entry into Miami, which means he will not be participating in the upcoming ATP Masters 1000 event. Despite his absence, he still has a chance to regain the World No. 1 spot from Carlos Alcaraz, who is the current defending champion at the Miami Open.

After Carlos Alcaraz’s victory at Indian Wells, he currently has 7,420 ranking points, while Novak Djokovic has 7,160 ranking points, which is a difference of less than 300 points. If Alcaraz manages to defend his title at the Miami Open, he will secure his position as the world No. 1 player. However, if he fails to do so, Djokovic will have the chance to replace him at the top of the rankings since he has no points to defend at the tournament.
