Carlos Alcaraz has proceeded into the third round of Wimbledon after a hard-fought victory over French player Alexander Muller. He is set to face Nicolas Jarry in the third round, but former world number one, Mats Wilander, has some advice for him before that. Speaking to Eurosport, Wilander cautioned the 20-year-old to address his unforced errors if he wants to win matches and subsequently triumph over Serbian maestro Novak Djokovic.

Ever since the commencement of Wimbledon, everyone is eager to see current World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz take on former number one Novak Djokovic. Their face-off is one of the most anticipated matches in Wimbledon. On one hand, Djokovic is aiming for his 24th Grand Slam title and to reclaim his position at the top of the ATP rankings, the same way on the other hand Alcaraz is aiming to secure his name in the history of tennis.

But 7 times GS champion Wilander believes that in order to achieve that, the young Spaniard must work on his playing skills. “The way forward for him is going to be to play a little more within himself and not take too many risks,” said Wilander. In his last match with Muller, Alcaraz made a total of 41 unforced errors. Although he won in the end, Wilander believes he needs to work on this if he wants to take down the Serb.

You can’t make that many unforced errors if you’re going to win Wimbledon and beat Novak Djokovic along the way,” he told Eurosport. But he admitted that he and the fans like Alcaraz playing like that, so he hopes he keeps winning more matches in the future. “But of course, the people love it. He loves it. I love it. So hopefully he doesn’t change too much but keeps winning,” Wilander further said.

Carlos Alcaraz took down Alexander Muller in the second round of SW19. Initially, the Spaniard was sloppy, committing 41 unforced errors, but he managed to secure a win in a three set 6-4, 7-6(2), 6-3 match. The 20-year-old battled back from a 30-15 deficit to win three consecutive points, breaking Muller’s serve. That break was crucial in clinching the opening set, as Muller saved two set chances when serving, but was unable to create a comeback against Alcaraz.

In the second set, Muller saved four break points to maintain serve at 2-2 and Alcaraz knocked off a break point at 3-4. It resulted in a tie-break. Apart from a double fault won the tie-break 7-2. Muller tried to resist Alcaraz in the third set. Both players held their serves until Alcaraz took advantage of an opening to break Muller’s serve and take a 5-3 lead. When Alcaraz faced two break points while serving for the match, he maintained his cool and saved both before converting his third match point. He will face Chilean player, Nicolas Jarry tonight.
