Emerging stars in tennis are frequently thrust into the spotlight when they achieve extraordinary feats on the court. Carlos Alcaraz, a brilliant young player who has lately taken the tennis world by surprise by winning two Grand Slam titles: Wimbledon and the US Open, is one such phenomenon. While his accomplishments are undeniably admirable, the publicity surrounding his success has sparked a debate about how it compares to the famous Monica Seles and her early career wins.
Alcaraz has been lavished with accolades and comparisons to past tennis greats by the media and fans. However, the increased attention around his two Major titles has prompted many to question if it is fair to compare him to the likes of Monica Seles, who was an unmistakable force in women’s tennis throughout the early 1990s.
Seles emerged into the tennis scene in the late 1980s, demonstrating incredible talent as well as a fierce competitive drive. She became the then youngest Grand Slam champion in history at the age of 16 by winning the French Open in 1990. What followed was a spectacular exhibition of dominance in which she won eight Grand Slam titles before turning 20 years old, including seven of the eight Majors between 1991 and 1993.
An important consideration is the sad incident that occurred during Seles’ tenure. She was the victim of a devastating on-court assault in 1993, which left her with physical and emotional scars. While she made a spectacular return, the incident had an undeniable impact on her professional trajectory. One of Steffi Graph‘s fans stabbed her on the court.
Netizens are not happy with Alcaraz being ‘over-hyped’

The reason tennis fans are not happy with Carlos Alcaraz’s fame is because of the different ways in which men’s and women’s tennis are perceived. Although tennis is still far better than any other sports in treating its women players, the differences in the treatment of men and women players is very clearly visible.
