Rafael Nadal found himself among the praise yet again for his past achievements, as this time former Spanish player and Nadal’s coach Carlos Moya revisited that amazing moment and praised Rafa for winning the trophy in the worst possible conditions ever.
Back in 2022, Nadal had a good season. He won two Grand Slams that year. After starting the year with a well-deserved Australian Open title, he appeared at the French Open in hopes of winning his 14th title.
However, the condition that Nadal was in made fans lose hope in him. The Spaniard had earlier suffered from a stress fracture in his rib and was then battling the chronic foot injury. Despite these tough situations, the Spaniard proved everyone wrong and won his 14th French Open title by beating Casper Rudd in the finals.
Recently, Carlos Moya chose this victory over Nadal’s 2022 Australian Open win against Medvedev to be Nadal’s greater victory. While appreciating the challenge posed by Medvedev in the finals, Mayo believed that Nadal struggled during the French Open and still battled through to win the title, making it a greater victory.
The Roland Garros that he won that year… I know the conditions in which he arrived, I know how he is in each match, and I see this what he did and what he is doing. I don’t know if, in the history of tennis, there is a player who won a Grand Slam in the conditions in which Rafa was at Roland Garros.Said Rafa’s coach Carlos Mayo.
Rafael Nadal’s coach unsure about his player’s performance at the Grand Slam
Ever since Rafael Nadal announced his comeback, all the spotlight has been on him and how he is practicing. There are numerous videos on the internet of the Spaniard practicing before his comeback tournament.
Recently his coach, Carlos Mayo gave an update on his form. The coach revealed that Nadal has shifted from practice to competing but that is nothing compared to a match at the Grand Slam.
This brings up a sense of worry for the coach, who is unsure how Nadal’s body will react during the Grand Slam matches, where the player gets a couple of days of rest in between hours of games under immense pressure.
However, the coach ends on a note of optimism, as he believes that his player will be ready for the Grand Slam and even train at the tournament before the Australian Open. Rafa will officially return to Brisbane International after the year and will hope to continue playing all the major events of the upcoming season.
